| About Liverpool First
Liverpool First is a group of concerned residents and business people from the Towns of Salina and Clay and the Village of Liverpool, just north of Syracuse, in the heart of upstate New York. It was formed to oppose the Wal-Mart Supercenter site on Route 57 in Liverpool just north of the Thruway. Liverpool First is not anti Wal-Mart, but its members have serious concerns about the location site of Route 57 and the Liverpool By-Pass. The thousands of additional cars and trucks passing through the Route 57 corridor, Morgan Road and John Glenn, the Village of Liverpool, as well as Onondaga Lake Parkway and Old Liverpool Road will strangle an already overloaded system of roads. Many neighborhoods will be impacted negatively with significant increases in enter and exit times. The site proposed for the Liverpool Wal-Mart Supercenter is the same site rejected by the Town of Salina Planning Board in August for a Flying J truck stop. Liverpool First says "Keep the Live in Liverpool" and will work with the Town of Salina Planning Board to show why this is the wrong location for this store. Our community has worked together over the years to keep the Greater Liverpool area a terrific place to live. Liverpool First is confident that the Town of Salina will see this site as unacceptable for a Wal-Mart Supercenter on a wide variety of issues.
Community Comments "I live in Bayberry and the traffic to get to the village will be awful. It is a nice little town with businesses who need to stay put, not be driven out by big corporations." -
Anonymous "I live in Clay and come to Liverpool to walk and shop. "What makes the greater Liverpool area a livable place is the neat little stores, the library, Nichols IGA, access to the lake -- all within safe walking distance. I would be negatively impacted by a Wal-Mart because it would disrupt all of the above." - Theresa J.
