| Calendar LiverpoolFIRST continues to monitor the Town of Salina Planning Board and Town Clerk's Office for any new news about the purposed Wal-Mart. Currently the Town of Salina is waiting for a revised DEIS (Draft Environmental Impact Statement) to be submitted by Wal-Mart. The Town Planning Board did not accept the DEIS as submitted on January 15, 2004.
Community Comments "My family and I have lived in the Johnson Tract for 18 years. It was a perfect place to bring up our 2 children. We enjoyed being close the lake and park and within walking distance to the village. The school disctrict was great and the taxes not too bad. It's been a great place. "For several years now, its been a challenge trying to get out of our street onto Morgan Road. My husband and I work in the city and it seems to be increasingly difficult to leave the neighborhood in the morning with the heavy traffic. In my opinion, building the Walmart will only increase the already dangerously heavy traffic flow on route 57 and Morgan Road. I don't understand how anyone can claim that the traffic will not be a problem. "Also, I have seen the proposed diagrams and actually the WalMart building will be closer to our tract than the Flying J Truck Stop would have been. Plans to add an access road on the bypass will cause more traffic problems. Commuters coming from Route 57 cut over the bypass and turn right onto Morgan Road. Even with the traffic light, it makes it almost impossible to turn left onto Morgan Road. Why is it necessary to put a WalMart on Route 57 when we have one on Route 31? Why not turn that Walmart into a superstore? "I'm concerned that the WalMart project will devalue my property in which I have invested quite a bit of hard work and money. And I'm sure that when the time comes (which may be soon if Walmart is built) that I will have a problem selling my home for what it is really worth. Liverpool is becoming too commercial. We just seem to build more commerical/industrial buildings when we have several properties that are vacant. I oppose this project and feel that the quality of life in this area will deteriorate tremendously." -
